Break down the design and innovation barriers

I’m sure that every Design Week reader has, at some stage, debated the relationship between design and innovation with a client or colleague.

However, I think it’s unlikely that many of us will have managed to offer such a powerful and succinct viewpoint about the importance of the relationship, as that argued by Clive Grinyer in his Private View article (DW 26 July).

His assessment that design and innovation are vital balancing components that cannot exist without each other is an appropriate and timely reminder to our industry of the vital role that we play in business and society. In today’s more challenging climate, we’d argue that it’s up to us all to break down the barriers that allow complacency, mediocrity as well as fear to stifle true innovation.
