Kinetica Art Fair
Now in its sixth year, the festival will open at the Old Truman Brewery this week, showing work from more than 100 artists from 15 different countries.
According to the festival organisers, this will ensure “a veritable cornucopia of approaches” for visitors to see and interact with.
“This is not a static experience and visitors to the fair will encounter art with a life of its own”, they add.
For the 2014 edition, things have turned almost Biblical, with artist Stuart Warren-Hill showing a project that aims to turn £1 into £1 million. The experiment, entitled The Orders of Magnitude Challenge (OOM), is a sort of high-stakes reworking of playground sticker swapsies (you know, start off with a dot; end up with a large, puffy, glittered adhesive horse etc).
Warren-Hill is looking to become a self-made millionaire by creating and selling artworks of steadily increasing values in 20 steps over the course of a year; and will be selling the “Level 11” piece at Kinetica. According to the festival, if he continues at his current rate, he’ll have his £1 million by his birthday in January next year.
Scottish artists Helson & Jackets will be showing Help Me Obi – a piece that brings to life the Star Wars quote using a 3D video machine and holographic technology.
Strange creatures will also be populating the event thanks to the creations of Tim Lewis, whose practice sees him create “man-animal-machine hybrids” which continue his explorations of how the subconscious fees the creative process.
Other highlights look set to include Alex May’s interactive sculptures, which “paint” onto physical sculptures using digital video footage.
Throughout the festival visitor will also be able to see panel sessions, talks and live performances including an interactive opera performance from Germany, and a “real-time intermedia dance performance” 4th Skin from Romania.
Kinetica Art Fair runs from 17 – 19 October at The Old Truman Brewery Ely’s Yard 15 Hanbury St London E1 6QR
