BBC New Media and Technology has appointed The Partners to develop the name and visual identity for its proposed media player software (DW 6 October).
The consultancy, which is on the BBC’s design roster, was selected for the task following a pitch with rival groups on the roster. Advertising agency DFGW was also selected in this process to provide a strategy for the launch of the player, which will allow users to download archived BBC content from the Internet.
Currently under the working title My BBC Player, a proposal for the final system will be presented to the board of governors early next year. A digital media specialist is expected to be appointed imminently to develop the ‘physical’ player’s functionality. The BBC is currently trialling its prototype interactive media application, iMP.
