Focus the creative mind by imposing strict limits

I couldn’t agree more with David Bernstein’s Private View point about the liberation of working within the brief (DW 8 July).

Raymond Savignac may have partially articulated this thinking when he spoke of his love of the constraints

and difficulty of working within limitations.

But it was composer Igor Stravinsky who melted the idea down into its purest (albeit oxymoronic) form when he stated: ‘the more constraints: the more freedom’.
