I am saddened to read about the closure of English & Pockett (DW 10 January), not least because Carter Wong Design is indebted to them for an act of kindness that saved our fledgling company.
A couple of years into our formation, a fire left us without a studio or funds to haul ourselves out of a big hole.
We were rescued by the directors of English Markell Pockett (as they were known then), who invited us to share their studio in London’s Kingly Street, for only a token rent.
They generously allowed us time to pick ourselves up and although it should have been a trying time, the sense of fun, the energy and the dynamism of the people at EMP was infectious, and I have only fond memories of our stay.
