AKQA shapes Orange Web portal

Telecoms group Orange has launched an Internet service, called Orange.net, designed by incumbent Web design consultancy AKQA.

The Orange.net portal aims to begin the integration of the group’s mobile phone network with the Internet. Orange telephone customers will be increasingly able to tap into the Orange portal site for information, initially received by users in the form of text messages.

Alongside AKQA, which designed the Orange.co.uk website, the Glasgow office of 999 will work on print and point-of-sale material for the initiative.

“Orange.net lets you do things you never thought were possible on-line. It offers a unique combination of services and information, all through one device and all on the move,” says Orange group commercial director Richard Brennan.

Orange customers using the Orange.net Internet service provider are notified by phone if they receive e-mail messages to the site. These can then be downloaded to a PC in the normal way.

Users can also request text information from the Orange portal. Sports results, fixtures and tables, news headlines and weather services are provided by the Press Association and ITN.

In the future, leisure services such as cinema and theatre listings will be provided by Flextech, directory services will be available from Thomson Directories, and last minute offers will be provided by Lastminute.com.
