E-mail push could benefit Web

Web designers could ultimately benefit from a drive to encourage more small businesses online. BT has urged the two thirds of small companies not yet doing so to start using e-mail to contact customers and suppliers, in an effort to save time and money.

This could have a knock-on effect of driving more users on to websites, increasing the demand for well-designed websites.

A new survey by Revelation Research on behalf of the telecoms giant reveals that e-mail is “significantly cheaper than traditional forms of communication, providing the best value for money by a factor of 100 or more”.

It adds that e-mail remains at the same cost, whether local or global, unlike the cost of post and fax.

Head of BT business Internet services Grant Broster says: “This research sends a clear message… E-mail is a vital, money-saving business tool. With subscription-free business Internet services such as BT Access, that allow businesses to pay as they go, now is the time to get online.”
