Jersey Airport books in 1000 Zoeftig seats

Alan Zoeftig has won the job to design seating for Jersey Airport’s new 20m departures concourse, due for completion next March.

Zoeftig will supply up to 1000 seats for the lounges. These will be a high-backed “head-rest” development of his Zenky system, which he hopes will take off in other airports partly because of the need to provide comfort for passengers whose flights are delayed.

The Jersey concourse is being designed for the States of Jersey Harbour and Airport Committee by Public Services Department architects, with interiors by Peterborough consultancy Ruddle Wilkinson.

According to Ruddle Wilkinson resources director David Turnock, the 140m-long structure “is conceived like a large aeroplane wing”. It will house 30 check-in desks and handle two million passengers a year.

Ruddle Wilkinson is also working on the “Modern Movement-style” refurbishment of Jersey’s original airport building, designed in 1937. This is due for completion in August 1997.
