Selfridges job for John Lees

London department store Selfridges is spending 200 000 on a new staff restaurant designed by London’s John Lees Associates, which won a credentials pitch against three other companies.

The restaurant will open on 30 September with 750 seats for the 4000 staff. “We’re calling it Top Deck because the floor looks like a ship’s floor and because it’s an aspirational project. We want to lift standards for staff catering,” says Tony Cave, the restaurant’s divisional manager.

Cave confirms that an in-house designer will be creating a logo. Lees Associates has designed a glass fibre centrepiece in the shape of a ship’s sails and a new fabric roof. Tables and chairs will be steel and aluminium.
