Greenwich team lodges planning application

Imagination and Richard Rogers Partnership were lodging a planning application today for the Millennium Exhibition on London’s Greenwich peninsula. It is thought a decision on the project will be taken early next year.

The masterplan submitted by Richard Rogers Partnership covers the whole 3700m2 site. The main feature is a 1km-wide and 50m-high dome – the world’s largest – which will contain exhibitions and shops. The surrounding area will include a plaza for outdoor events, the Meridian Gardens, a park and a riverside walk.

An Imagination spokesman says “an estimated 12 million visitors are expected to visit the site in 2000. Some features will be permanent, contributing to the long-term regeneration of London’s largest area of wasteland”.
