I was seven in 1988. I liked guns, trucks and robots. I was a boy. So naturally, I was pretty much obsessed with the Transformers character Optimus Prime and desperately wanted him for Christmas that year. He was on sale at Argos for £24.99, which I knew because I’d scoped him out in the catalogue – in September. I wasn’t given him though – I think I unwrapped some twigs or sticks instead.
