Educational publisher Longman has appointed Bamber Forsyth to develop a brand identity.

The group is currently working with the Pearson-owned company, which merged with sister US education publisher Addison-Wesley in January, to create systems which will be used to “inform other design decisions”, says a Bamber Forsyth spokeswoman. “Bamber Forsyth has been appointed to look at what the merger means in visual as well as strategic terms,” says a source at Longman.

The Bamber Forsyth spokeswoman adds the Longman boat symbol will look different, but “essentially, we’ll build on what’s already there. The Longman boat has a strong awareness,” she says.

The consultancy won the work in “a strategic pitch” against Landor Associates and Springpoint, says the spokeswoman.
