Wood works for Stantons

The UK’s leading wood importer, Stantons, is opening a timber academy in Boston, Lincolnshire, next spring. Design is by interior design group and architect MoreySmith.

Stantons currently sells a wide range of products in most builder’s suppliers and major DIY outlets throughout the country. It has decided to launch the new project in an effort to educate designers, architects and carpenters about the diverse uses of timber and forestry.

The 1.6ha site for the building is situated near Stantons’ existing timber yard and processing facility. The academy will feature a product gallery, lecture theatre, general office accommodation and sauna. The surrounding site has also been landscaped by MoreySmith.

‘It’s a very exciting project because we had not done anything like this before,’ says MoreySmith founder Linda Morey Smith.

‘Glulam beams form the structure, with many of Stantons’ own products also used. We had a bit of fun designing some furniture for the main reception area and created a café for the staff plus a unisex sauna with a fire place.’

Stantons group sales director John Tong adds that the new site will fill a dual function. ‘Part of the site will be offices for up to 80 people, while the academy will provide training for staff and customers in a variety of areas. We are trying to use timber to its best effect and will use the building as a selling tool,’ he explains.
