Agency candidates come at a considerable cost

We have recently advertised in Design Week for a senior packaging designer and have had a number of interesting applications. In addition, the ad attracted the attention of a number of recruitment agencies, who have also put forward some candidates.

I do not begrudge the recruitment agencies their livelihood. However, their 20 to 25 per cent fee puts their candidates at a distinct disadvantage, as they come with a large premium on their heads.

For what it is worth, my advice to designers looking for their next career opportunity in this competitive world is to scan the Design Week job ads regularly, and apply direct.
