Five identity designs have been shortlisted and the winning mark will be chosen following an online public vote (for more details and to vote, click here).

Brilliant Evolution
‘Brilliant Evolution’

The initiative has been launched by UAE vice president and prime minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who said on Twitter, ‘The UAE nation brand logo will promote the UAE and tell its story to the world.’

Fabric of Society
‘Fabric of Society’

The five anonymous designs were proposed during the last UAE cabinet session and, according to the local press, a winner will be chosen after voting ends on 18 July.

Vivid Tapestry
‘Vivid Tapestry’

Each logo features variations in English and Arabic, and the voting site also features brand applications showing the identities in use.

You Can Be Anything
‘You Can Be Anything’

Earlier this year, the tiny European country of Liechtenstein chose a new logo following a public poll open to the country’s population. The winning identity, by UK-based designer Marc Weymann, replaces a previous identity developed by Wolff Olins.

    This smacks of the X factor: a group of reasonably uninspiring contenders with dull stories judged by public votes. Let’s hope the public give a vote of no confidence. Shocking stuff.

    I see potential in u.ae especially in a digital world, also the ‘U’ is a great tool to create a living brand.

    To Graeme – You were expecting them all have exactly the same interpretation of the brief? Unless the message was set along with the brief then you would expect each designer to put forward their spin on what the UAE represented.

    As an emirati and a designer I see non of them represent the soul of the Emirati identity, they are well structured designs but non do capture the national Identity of the uae
